Hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through Nov. 30. You can't be ready to help others, unless you and your family are ready first. So it's important to set aside time to prepare.
"Ensuring the welfare of our personnel and their families is a top priority, and I strongly encourage you to prepare early for a safe hurricane season," said RDML M. W. Sibley, Acting Assistant Commandant of Human Resources.
Military personnel can visit the Office of Military Personnel’s (CG-13) website for helpful information on evacuation allowances and frequently asked questions. These reference sheets and question-banks were created over the last two hurricane seasons and will help you and your family be better prepared
Civilian personnel can visit the Office of Civilian Human Resources (CG-121) website for important information on evacuation allowances.
All personnel should check their Coast Guard Personnel Accountability and Assessment System (CGPAAS) information for accuracy.
Make sure you and your spouse have all this information at your fingertips, 24/7, by downloading the USCG Health, Safety and Work-Life app.
Make sure that your home and possessions are adequately insured. Families should check their insurance coverage now, not after a loss is incurred. If you rent a house or apartment and do not already have renter’s insurance, you should talk to a professional insurance agent about purchasing a renters insurance policy. Also, keep in mind that homeowner or renters insurance does not usually cover flood damage; flood insurance must be purchased separately.
